Today was a different day indeed. My RP (running partner) was unable to do the main race today as she is not a vet and at the end of the day she got sick and couldn’t attend. Seeing I was going anyway, the lady I trained for 2007 TO asked if I could walk with her. Now seriously the last walk I did was about Aug 2007.
So here I go to the race with big red “WALKER” tags on my chest and back, it doesn’t take long for the runners to notice these tags and I have to explain over and over my partner is not yet a vet. Many were worried I had crossed over again, I told them not to worry only the ANC does floor crossing.
So bang and off we go, I had to fight the urge to start running, which was damn difficult. Anyway we did a lot of catching up until the last mother of a hill, I had music playing from my MP3 speaker and it was that type of gym/taebo music. Anyway she pulled out all the stops as we race walked up this mother of a hill, couldn’t help think how easy it would be to run up this hill but alas “WALKER”
At the top I got a bit of a scare as she started waving her arms around and was changing colour in her face I saw what was happening and immediately tried to clam her down.
Basically it goes like this, she had exerted herself so much that she experienced shortness of breath and this shortness of breath caused a panic attack, evidence shows when someone is unable to control his breathing pattern, it exacerbates the condition, leading the individual to experience more worsening form of anxiety. Hence, it can be concluded while panic attack can cause a shortness of breath, the inadequate control over breathing pattern or shortness of breath leads people to experience intensified panic attack in turn. When people perceive that they cannot breathe adequately, this turns them to experience more anxiety in return.
Well I calmed her down and after two minutes she was able to breath normally again and give a smile, we walked to the finish to find her very concerned husband on his way to find her, someone had seen this happen, finished and went and told the husband.
Anyway at the end of the day she is still alive although her bronchial tract is sore and I have another walk under my belt although not in a hurry to repeat this, it is much easier to run.
