As previously said hills have always been a problem for Anna, funny enough they always used to be a problem for me. I use to shy away from running a route with a hill, cause I can't do it. Sharon was my saving grace here, she asked me one day.
"How do you eat an elephant ?"
I said "I dunno"
She said " Piece by piece, take the hill piece by piece"
Ever since then I have tackled the hills with a passion to overcome them, piece by piece.
Back to Anna who sees a hill and wants to give up, well that was the old Anna, now days I am running with the new Anna who too is now eating up the hills and asking for more.
Today we ran in tandem as is now our training custom and I tell you what we ran 2.3 km uphill and she stayed right next to me the whole way. It would seem that this extreme training method (the tow rope) is paying off.
One can not under estimate the importance of this training, there are those who foolishly avoid this type of training and it is foolish, it is the best way of building running muscle.
I am really looking forward to this Two Oceans, seeing it will be my last one, it must be a good one.
Why last one ? Well there are so many other races I need to do before Lindy, Anna and myself crest the top of the Mavis Banks in the Rhodes Ultra 2013, this is when I turn 50 yrs old.
