Forty-five minutes into the marathon I got gatvol, just didn’t feel like running hard, it was overcast with intermittent rain. Ideal cool weather but the yearning for a marathon run was lacking.
Now I hear this voice behind me sounding rather peed off at someone or something, turned out to be a young lady who has just started running, she is struggling a bit and we got chatting next thing I had become a bus driver again.....eish.

It made for a pleasant run, she was running the 32 km and at that point I decided to do that as well. We chatted about running, gave her advise, showed her a few tricks I have learned about running and before we knew it 5 km to go and the split for the marathon to go right, 32 km go straight. Oh man decisions, I glanced at a pace chart for sub 5 marathon and noted that I should be 3 km further along at the present time so 32 km run it is.
So we cruised into we finish and she was truly thankful for the help, she just kept on saying thanks for this and teaching me that, it felt good that today I did actually achieve something, maybe not a marathon but we have a new runner who is now here to stay.
Good stuff Dave! I think you made the right choice to do 32. That extra 10 could have been hell. The positive mind you have now is worth much more than the 10km would have been worth.
