Where do I get these ideas from ?
Entering Comrades, doing 5 marathons in 5 days and entering a biggest loser competition.
Well being trained by the best in the business I had an idea that this challenge would be a walk in the park. Several weeks I walked away that weeks biggest loser title which built up the self confidence to a high level.
Then it happened, a very bad fall, stitches in the leg with orders from the doctor to sit on my butt and raise my leg. I had worked so hard to get to this point and wham. So I sit and I feel myself getting fat, no workouts, no running no nothing !!!!!
Against Doctors orders I left for Hekpoort and ran 211 km in 42 hours, this ate away at the weight I had picked up but did not help me with that extra loss I was pinning my hopes on.
My nearest competition came in the form of my fiend Liz from RWFL Pinetown. I had introduced her to the challenge but truthfully I did not expect her to do so well, halfway through the challenge we had measurements taken as there were prizes for the biggest centimetre loss as well. Liz kicked my butt by 2 cm’s.
So I knew I was in for a good run here, Liz had the centimetre thingy in the bag so I needed to concentrate on the title of biggest loser.
At this stage asking me what I would of done different and I would answer I would change to working out twice a day instead of once. Food wise I was fine and maybe just a few more kilometres a day in my running.
The other competitors in this challenge were no threat to me, they had small loses each week so no fear.
You know what, one thing that did not enter my mind until the shock of it all hit me, this is percentage and not actual loss. On the last weigh in I knew I was in trouble, Liz had lost 96 cm to my puny 52 cm, Liz had also lost 14 odd kg’s to my 13.2 kg
Working out my percentage and Liz’s percentage my fears were confirmed Liz had taken me by 1.5 percent, well she deserved it, really she did, she worked out hard for this and I have know Liz for years. This is the first time I have seen Liz go all out to achieve something.
So I arrive for the evening of prize giving, my wellness coach, Carol Gore, is over the moon to see me there…hmmmm….wonder why ? So we go through the photos and then the certificates from the least percentage upwards. I was sitting at the back with Liz and her family.
Finally they call out Liz for the most centimetre loser and she gets her cash and certificate.
Now I wonder did I calculate wrong, seriously now there a three positions left and they have called Liz up on the forth place what the heck is going on ?
Total shock, “our third place winner is…..DAVE”

Holly hell third place….how the heck….I felt my heart sink, third place how is that possible? I hit a low right there, I let myself down and let Jillian down….No this just wrong. I got my certificate and vouchers but I was still trying to figure this out, what the heck ?
“ Second place winner is…..Imran “ Well I never saw that one coming, this dude was one of those people who would lose 1.5 kg’s a week, it turns out he beat me by 0.1 % I mean seriously…but hey he did beat me and congrats to him.
So who took the first place win…The Biggest Loser title went to Liz, she won it and the centimetre challenge as well. Liz could not believe it and I was proud that she had got it.

Congratulations to Liz and RWFL Pinetown, Liz I hope you keep up this challenge, you have come so far, I heard you say you were going for the Get Fit Challenge at Virgin Active. Well keep it up girl, remember I am watching you .
Love your story Dave, I did not mean to win, but what the hell, I also went on to win the Get fit Challenge Biggest Loser a week later. I am in a swing of losing weight now and will keep on going, 2nd Weight Loss Challenge is starting tomorrow evening at 5.30 pm. The Winter Get Fit Challenge is starting on Monday, I have received a complimentary voucher for this challenge. Am hoping to shed another 15 kgs by end of August, which leaves me with 10 kgs to go to my goal I have set for myself, the Summer Get Fit Challenge should be in September so by the end of the year hopefully I would have reached a healthy body weight. This is where you come in, I'm looking for a coach to help me train so that I can enter and complete the Two Oceans Ultra next year. Interested?
